"The road from Km 60 (west of Mexico 1) to San
Isidro - La Purisima is a secondary road through mountainous terrain but is
readily negotiable in pickups and vans. It is not suited for larger
RVs. The 70.1 mile of road from La Purisma to Ciudad Insurgentes is
a paved highway through level terrain.

The road leaves Mexico 1 westward approximately at Km
Marker 60 (north of Loreto). The sign at the junction indicates it
is 65 kilometers to La Purisima. The mountainous peninsular divide of
approximately 1,500 feet in elevation is reached in about 8 miles.
West from here the roadbed lies in reasonably gentle terrain but can be
badly damaged after heavy rains. Another 1,500 foot pass is
encountered at the 31.5 mile point whereupon the road descends steeply
into the valley ahead. This is the steepest grade on the loop.

|
Approximately 13 miles SW from Mexico 1 on the
secondary road to San Isidro one encounters the junction with the old
canyon road along Arroyo de la Purisima to San Isidro. Taking this
24 mile long route offers a scenic challenge with numerous arroyo
crossings. Near its eastern end the road encounters the Rancho Ojo de
Agua which is where the water rises that is eventually channeled into the
palm covered valleys at San Isidro and La Purisima.

|
At 35.1 Miles - Town center of San Isidro
(population 1,000). At the east end of town a road forks to the
north and crosses the Arroyo de la Purisima. A short distance
further, a second road branches to the right providing access to numerous
places to camp in the desert. There are few camp sites in the valley
itself that are not part of someone's home or garden. The road
between San Isidro and La Purisima was oil-surfaced in 1995.
|
|
At 37.6 Miles - Center of La Purisima. It
is approximately a 6 mile drive through the two town of San Isidro and La
Purisima. The majority of the area is a valley some 1/2 mile in width
completely covered with palms and other trees and numerous garden
plots. There is surface water running in the stream and the overall
atmosphere is most pleasant.

|
From this point to Ciudad Insurgentes the paved highway
is marked with Kilometer post signs."
