San Francisquito

"A side trip out to the Sea of Cortez passes through good desert mountain scenery and terminates in the small, secluded fish camp of San Francisquito on Bahía Santa Teresa.  The turnoff for San Francisquito (signed for El Arco) occurs about 27 km (16.7 miles) south of the Guerrero Negro junction. From the highway, the 121 km (75 miles) road to the bay takes three to four hours, including the steep downgrade known as Cuesta de la Ley (Slope of the Law), which comes along approximately 29 kn (18 miles) before San Francisquito.  Nowadays the grade has been lessened and is not quite as challenging as it once was.  Modest supplies may be available along the way in El Arco, 33.8 km (21 miles) east of Mexico Highway 1.  Many roads join the main one east of El Arco, and you may have to ask directions along the way to ensure you're on a direct course for San Francisquito.

You can also reach San Francisquito by road from Bahia de los Angeles in about the same amount of time.  Count on lots of washboard along either road; be sure to gas up first in Bahia de los Angeles, Guerrero Negro, or Vizcaino.  Both roads meet near Rancho El Progresso, approximately 21 km (13 miles) east of Bahia San Francisquito.  The network of roads surrounding the ranch can be a trifle confusing; take the branch heading due east to reach the bay (a southeasterly branch goes to the fish camp of El Barril).
