Golf

Los Cabos is on the verge of a golf explosion, the likes of which Mexico has never seen. By the end of 1993, the area has at least 72 holes of championship golf. The area's striking desert-by-the-sea setting has attracted designers Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones, Jr., and Pete and Perry Dye.

Watersports

Los Cabos is ideal for water-bound sports enthusiasts. If it's done on water, it's here! As with any ocean activity, care should be taken to ensure safety, particularly in the open ocean.

Fishing

Arguably, Los Cabos has the finest game fishing in the world. The area holds numerous world records, and over 40,000 marlin and sailfish are hooked each year (nearly all of which are released). 800 species of game fish are caught, including dorado, wahoo, yellowtail, and roosterfish. A full day trip, with tackle and guides runs around $300 per boat. Pangas (smaller launches) go for $80-100 for a half day. Normally arrangements can be made upon arrival. Several major international tournaments are held each Fall.

Beaches, Swimming, and Snorkeling

Nature has carved numerous safe bays and coves along the area's miles of uncrowded sandy shore. Remember, some of the area's beaches may be hazardous for swimming, due to strong undertows and open-ocean surf.

Here's a run-down on the most popular swimming beaches:

bulletIn San José del Cabo the Playa Palmilla offers calm waters and excellent snorkeling.
bulletAlong The Corridor, Playa Bledito is marvelous for swimming. Chileno Bay and Santa Maria Bay are two lovely coves, ideal for sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling. Chileno features complete watersports rentals. Shipwreck Beach (Barco Varado) is also a favorite.
bulletIn Cabo San Lucas, there is Médano Beach, offering complete watersports rentals, crystal water, and several seaside restaurants. Venture out by launch to Playa del Amor for simple seaside relaxation and marvelous snorkeling. Playa Sol Mar on the Pacific Ocean side has pounding surf, a vast desert-like beach, and awesome rock cliffs.

Diving

The area is teaming with undersea life. Several wreck, cave and canyon dives are popular. Not to be missed is Cabo's unique undersea sand falls just off the tip of land's end in Cabo. Visibility sometimes reaches 120 feet. Water temperatures soar into the low 80's in summer. Several excellent dive shops serve the area, including Amigos del Mar, Cabo Aquadeportes, and Cabo Divers.

Surfing

San José del Cabo has excellent waves. Head to Aqapulquito Beach near Punta Palmilla just outside San José.

Windsurfing

Head north from San José to Los Barriles and Buena Vista, site of many international competitions each year.

Jetski, windsurfing and hoby cat rentals, and parasailing is available in Cabo San Lucas.
