HOW TO GET HERE
Loreto is located 412 km south of Guerrero Negro through the Transpeninsular
Higway;
by air to its international airport; by sea by touristic boats or private yachts.
ORIGIN
Due to the beauty of the place and the abundance of fishing the first hotel in Loreto
the Club Deportivo de Vuelos (Sports Flying Club) was built in 1950: Its owner was one of
the tourism pioneers in Baja California Sur, Edward Tabor who also built the hotel
airstrip. He flew two times a week from Mexicali to Loreto to bring the sportsfishermen
that filled his hotel.
DESCRIPTION
The incomparable beauty of the zone and the marine richness of Loreto waters demanded
more and more rooms each time. New hotels were built: Oasis, La Pinta, Misión de Loreto,
Diamond Loreto, Plaza and others. Loreto is one of the FONATUR planned developments. One
18 hole golf course with a clubhouse and a model tennis center with a clubhouse, 9 tennis
courts and one stadium are included in this development. Loreto has a good sportsfishing
fleet that makes it possible to organize several tournaments during the year. The seasons
for the main species are: medregal: all year round (scarce); bonito: all year round;
dorado: Dec-Jun; garropa: Dec-Mar; blue marlin:Aug-Oct; black marlin: all year round
(scarce); striped marlin : Apr-Nov; rooster fish: Apr-May, Sept-Nov; sailfish: May-Oct;
swordfish: all year round; wahoo: all year round (scarce); jurel: Jun-Dec
ACTIVITIES
Sports fishing. Beach sports. Diving, snorkeling. Tours to the islands. Ecological
journeys. Sailing rowing, skiing. Tunnel like boat competitions. Sightseeing around Isla
Coronado sea lion sanctuary.
RECOMMENDATIONS
There are other interesting options in Loreto. In order to enjoy your vacation ask for
information in your travel agency or hotel. Do not swim or dive among the sealions. They
may be very aggressive if their territorial waters are invaded. Contract the services of
legally established experts for your fishing activities.
