ORIGIN
This geographic sculptured formation carved by nature and patiently done through many
centuries is the only finisterra (latin word for land's end) in the world. There the land
ends and there is nothing more.
DESCRIPTION
It is a monumental rock arch carved by nature in the southernmost part of the
peninsula. This arch of impressive beauty and international fame became a regional symbol.
It is said that under its hollowness the Sea of Cortés and the Pacific Ocean embrace
themselves. What is absolutely true is that it is a place of extraordinary beauty and
whoever visits Baja California Sur should never fail to see it. Under the arch, the most
famous "Playa del Amor" (Love Beach) becomes larger when the ebb tide is at its
lowest point,. At the bottom of the sea, just less than a hundred meters down, the magic
sand cascades that come from various tributaries of an enormous underwater canyon is a
great spectacle which can only be observed by expert divers. The falling is intermittent,
but a good diver can see at least one of them. Colonies of corals and the great diversity
of fishes that populate its waters can also be observed. There is a colony of sea lions in
the arch surroundings which can be seen sunbathing on the rocks of this unique
finisterra.
ACTIVITIES
Tours on boats or touristic boats. Sea lion watching. Diving exclusively for
observation. Snorkeling. Swimming and sunbathing. A visit to the beaches El Médano and La
Hacienda. Golf, tennis. Shopping. Arts and Crafts. There are plenty of activities in the
touristic corridor from Cabo San Lucas up to San José del Cabo. It is the most important
touristic zone of the state. The black coral colonies are an ecological
reserve, so only diving for observation is permitted. All of the area of Los Cabos is
highly recommended for sports fishing. Ask for information in your travel agency or hotel
in order to enjoy the many options for recreation.
